1. We are not a food hub
Traditional food hubs commonly aggregate products from multiple farms, operate or use centralized storage, assemble orders, and coordinate distribution.
INDYpendent Bytes does not depend on a centralized warehouse model. We do not require producers to sell inventory into an INDYpendent Bytes-owned physical hub, nor does the system require INDYpendent Bytes to own cold-storage facilities or trucks.
Instead, INDYpendent Bytes coordinates the activities surrounding those physical assets:

- Production planning
- Expected demand is translated into production opportunities and crop-cycle planning.

- Independent cultivators claim production opportunities based on their capacity rather than receiving arbitrary production assignments.

2. We are not a produce wholesaler
A produce wholesaler generally purchases agricultural products and resells them to commercial buyers, earning margin through the resale transaction.
INDYpendent Bytes does not operate by purchasing produce inventory and reselling it at a markup. Participating cultivators remain independent suppliers. INDYpendent Bytes administers the coordination structure surrounding their transactions rather than becoming the inventory owner.
That structure can include buyer demand collection, crop-cycle planning, production opportunity claiming, allocation rules, supplier participation requirements, transaction administration, settlement logic, and performance tracking.
A wholesaler creates economic value through inventory purchasing and resale. INDYpendent Bytes creates value by converting fragmented regional production capacity into coordinated supply.
3. We are not a distributor
A distributor's primary function is the physical movement and handling of goods, including farm pickup, warehousing, refrigerated storage, order picking, route management, freight transportation, and last-mile delivery.
INDYpendent Bytes is not designed to become Central Indiana's regional trucking fleet. Producers move products to designated fulfillment points according to established protocols. Mid-mile or last-mile transportation can then be performed by qualified third-party logistics providers, commercial distributors, institutional partners, or other network participants.
INDYpendent Bytes coordinates fulfillment requirements without needing to own every physical asset involved in fulfillment. That allows existing logistics providers to become network infrastructure partners rather than forcing INDYpendent Bytes to duplicate capacity that already exists in the region.
4. We are not a marketplace
A marketplace primarily facilitates discovery between buyers and sellers.

Central Indiana's regional food challenge is not simply a shortage of farms, buyers, land, infrastructure, or programs. It is also a coordination problem.
Producers often lack visibility into aggregated regional demand. Buyers often lack visibility into aggregated regional production capacity. Interoperability over vertical integration
INDYpendent Bytes is intentionally designed around interoperability rather than ownership of the entire supply chain. Owning the farms, warehouses, trucks, processing facilities, marketplaces, and purchasing organizations would create another vertically integrated food enterprise.
Instead, producers remain independent producers, logistics companies remain logistics companies, food hubs continue operating physical infrastructure, institutions remain independent buyers, and regional partners contribute specialized capacity without surrendering organizational independence.
The goal is not to replace the regional food system. The goal is to make the regional food system operate like a system.
