This page addresses regional and wholesale local food distribution: how locally grown products can move through coordinated procurement and fulfillment for restaurants, schools, institutions, foodservice operators, and other recurring buyers. INDYpendent Bytes is not a food pantry locator or emergency food distribution program.

The distribution problem is often coordination

Small farms may each have useful capacity, but buyers often need larger, more predictable quantities than one producer can reliably supply. Traditional local sourcing can require buyers to contact multiple farms, reconcile availability, manage substitutions, and coordinate separate fulfillment relationships.

INDYpendent Bytes is designed to coordinate the information and operating rules around that movement: buyer demand, production planning, producer participation, allocation, receiving, fulfillment, settlement, and logistics requirements.

What IB does and does not do

  • IB coordinates local supply across multiple independent producers.
  • IB is designed to coordinate hub-to-buyer fulfillment requirements and qualified logistics capacity.
  • Producers remain independent businesses and retain ownership of their products until the applicable transaction transfer point.
  • IB does not need to purchase inventory for resale or operate a regional trucking fleet.

Who this model is for

The model is being developed for Central Indiana buyers with recurring demand and for smaller cultivators who benefit from clearer market signals, coordinated production, and a shared buyer-facing supply process.
